New Topic: Living things and their Habitats

What do you know about ‘living things and their habitats’? Complete a spider diagram of everything you know already (without asking anyone for any help or looking in books/online). You may know a lot or you may know very little and that is fine.

Once complete, look at video clips of different habitats and write down what animals and plants you see in these different habitats.

1. Look at woodland and pond: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zytxpv4

2. Second video on ponds: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/z3vs34j

We are going to continue to work on improving our vocabulary and develop our ambitious vocabulary for description.

Watch this short 2min video clip about Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker.

Then choose three different characters from the ones you wrote about last week. Write some sentences about them to describe what they look like and what their personality is like. Use a thesaurus (online if needed) to improve the vocabulary that you can think of to make sure you are writing with words that will make your audience go 'wow!' Use evidence from the book you have heard so far to give reasons WHY your character is that way.

Music

Create a picture inspired by the mythical firebird alongside author and illustrator James Mayhew and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

First watch Claudia Winkelman as she discovers the magical story that inspired Stravinsky’s soaring music. To access the videos to watch, click on the link opposite and scroll down to the tenth set of videos called:

Illustration inspired by Stravinsky's 'The Firebird'

Then see how illustrator James Mayhew uses Stravinsky’s dazzling music performed by BBC NOW to inspire him to draw – watch what he does and then create your own fantastic illustration. If you don't have paint at home just use coloured pencils or felt tip pens (or both).

Start to plan you character description. You are going to create a new life sized insect character to live in the peach. In this lesson first of all draw and colour (a large picture taking up most of a page ) what they want their new insect to look like. Then label around their drawing with lots of adjectives to describe it. Think of their senses - what does it look like, sound like, feel like? Use ambitious and interesting adjectives.

Art The Dance by Henri Matisse. Think about figures you made in the last session. This week can you develop your ideas by  making of an image of a group of figures on a single background. Try to use coloured tissue paper to overlapping figures. Try to explore colour mixing by exploiting the translucent nature of tissue paper.
